Whether you like to enjoy a full-on theatre show or some cool jazz when you’re at sea, there are some exciting new developments in the world of cruise entertainment by two of the world’s most celebrated cruise lines.
Royal Caribbean has just announced that two shows will debut for the line on the feature-packed Anthem of the Seas in April 2015, comprising the main program in the ship’s Royal Theatre. Bringing a little of the West End to the ocean waves, We Will Rock You is making its cruise ship debut for Royal Caribbean, featuring a plethora of Queen favourites and of course, plenty of big hair and Lycra. In contrast, The Gift is a completely original Royal Caribbean production and exclusive to Anthem of the Seas, which will feature a spellbinding show of illusion and fantasy.
As well as the two new theatre productions, the line will also be debuting an all-new show in Anthem of the Seas’ Two70 – Spectra’s Cabaret – another original production which features Maestro and the Agents of Rhythm in an exciting cabaret performance.
In laid-back contrast, Cunard has a real treat in store for jazz lovers with the introduction of Jazz at Sea in October 2015. The October 29 transatlantic crossing to New York takes place on Queen Mary 2 and sees celebrated label Blue Note Records celebrate its 75th anniversary in style, when it’s all-star band Our Point of View are set to perform on-board.
Blue Note Records’ Grammy Award-winning president Don Was, perhaps best known to the wider public as founder member of Was Not Was, will also be on-board during the sailing and will be hosting a number of Q&A sessions with performing artists including Robert Glasper, Marcus Strickland and Kendrick Scott.
